The South African men’s 4x100 metre relay team gave South Africa their fourth gold medal and set a new world record in 41.78 seconds at the Paralympic Games in London on Wednesday night.
Samkelo Radebe, Zivan Smith, Arnu Fourie and Oscar Pistorius set the stadium alight as they exchanged batons – in the form of an arm tap – first in each leg of the race.
Brazil’s Alan Oliveira was close to catching Pistorius on the line but the Pistorius’ determination won through in the end.

Cape St Francis – In perfect four-foot pointbreak surf, Davey Brand won the Pro Junior Boys final against Dylan Lightfoot with two excellent scoring rides. Jeffreys Bay local Lightfoot was chasing a small score but couldn’t find it amongst the excellent waves, and the win went to Brand. Slade Prestwich and Benji Brand were tied in third place. “This has been my best event of the year,” said Davey. “I’m just so stoked that my parents were here to see it.”
